Assuming you are talking about the SAT I, there are 3 sections: Math, Verbal, and Writing. You can score between 200-800 points in each section. There is no "failing" or "passing" score. It is used as an indicator of your aptitude so that colleges can decide if they want to accept you or not. College-guide websites and books will usually give you statistics on the SAT score ranges of the students at each school. You can retake it as many times as you want, but they only offer it on certain days throughout the year so you'll have to make sure to sign up for it in time. Some schools allow you to submit your highest score from each section.

How hard it is depends on your background and education. I did pretty well on it (my highest scores were 800 in math & 790 in verbal). But then, I liked math and I read a lot of books. I also took SAT prep classes.

The math questions include basic arithmetic, algebra 1 & 2, and geometry. The verbal section includes reading comprehension and sentence completion questions. The new writing section contains various grammitcal questions as well as an essay.

It can be pretty hard the first time you take it. You'll look at the multiple choice answers and feel that there are several that could fit the question. My best advice if you want to do well is to practice a lot, and learn from your mistakes! I took 2 practice tests each week for an entire summer back when I was studying for the SAT. Figure out which questions you got wrong and why you got them wrong. After a while, you get used to the kind of questions they ask and you'll get a feel for how to answer, and what kind of answers they are looking for.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me an e-mail and I'll try to answer.

i know the S.A.T's are hard. but don't worry all you have to do is relax and study hard. There kind of serious. but you'll only take it one time. if you fail i think you go to summer school or something. or you don't graduate. i don't know Cause I took it and it was easy because i studied.

Yes.

Depends.
There are many SAT prep books out their. Go to the library or book store. I think they still give out sample question pamphlets. Ask your school adviser
