Don't worry about what kind of light you have for now, you can change it later without a problem. Guppies will do fine even if there is only indirect light from the room's light. I like regular florescent light (actinic is even better) as they make the fish look better.
Two females with a separator will work fine, but so would tons of silk plants (real would be even better but that will have to wait). Wal mart sells bunches of them for a buck each in the decorating area of the store and they work just as well as the expensive pet store fake silk plants (you will have to attach them to rocks with a rubber band though)
Three males is a community, and I would wait to see if the algae is a problem before you buy one (guppies will eat the algae as well)
PS Moving guppies from tank to tank WILL make them sick. Take the time a acclimate them to the new tank water and clean your net after each use

Either light will work, flourescents are better if you have live plants. Either way, a light will help keep the temperature up, and let your heater run less. The 2 females in a tank with the seperator sould be fine, just make sure they cannot get through and that the water is filtered on each side. The 3 males in the other tank should be alright as well, but Id consider getting a buddy or 2 for the algae eater (depending on it's size). I currently have 3 females and 1 male guppy, 2 platies, and 3 coryadoras in my 10 gal. No pregnancies yet, but I have a spare tank just in case. Good Luck to ya, and enjoy your fish!

Fish don't need light, it is only for you. (Salt water tanks is a different story...). They are just fish, they don't have any great emotional bonds but it is nice for guppies to have a few "friends". They usually just swim in schools for protection. Worse is if you have too many fish in a tank! (inch of fish/gal of water).

o.k., for the 5 gallon, i might advise a male betta. Petco extremely has alot of distinctive varieties of them, and that i've got in my view stumbled on an activity interior the KING betta, yet that's by using the fact it is so vast. in case you stumble on the superb shade and beautify the tank precise, you're growing to be a great setup! Ahh the ten gallon. those are constantly exciting to inventory. i'm going to make it easier to know my setup that looked as though it would artwork quite lots. I placed 5 dwarf loaches in. that could appear as if lots, in spite of if it form of has a opposite effect. they have little barbels which will go throught the gravel and %. out lost meals, so in a approach, they do greater stable on your tank than undesirable. Too upload to this, you ought to upload a male betta. they are oftentimes to no longer propose to the little loaches, so aggression would not be a subject. And he might in all probability swim from facet to facet on your tank, thankfully patroling it. yet that's in simple terms my opinion. yet please, no goldfish. i assume you ought to purpose a variety of little "feeder fish" you notice, and attempt to maintain it alive. probability is it is going to die very quickly. yet while it does proceed to exist, it is going to in all probability get vast, so i would not recomend it. yet once you're arranged to get a miles better tank IN CASE, then choose for it :)
