You as a teen should get at least 8 hours. Unfortunately you don't sometimes. A teens brain does not start producing the sleep inducing hormone until early in the morning, ( 1-3) and this causes some teens to want to stay up late and then they have to get up early and don't get the right amount of sleep. I read this in TIME magazine. The best way is to turn the lights off early enough and the brain will start to produce this hormone ( because it senses there is darkness) and chances are you will get to sleep faster. Me, as a 42 year old suffer from insomnia. I will get sometimes 2-3 hours of sleep a night or i will wake up a few times a night never getting REM sleep. I feel like I never get enough sleep. :)

My kids (both under 8 years old) get 11 hours of sleep a night, I am lucky to get 6-7. Would prefer 12 hours at least!

Well let's see. I am 25. I get about in a row not sure. I don't fall asleep until usually 4 or 5 am. I am then up almost every hour, waking up and it takes me about 20 mins to fall back to sleep. So not a lot. Working afternoons could be the problem. But who knows. so maybe about 3-4 hours.

I'm a teen in college, er was since I'm on summer break now.
-During the summer I get about 9 hours of sleep :D
-During regular school I get about 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
-When I am nearing a test (damn), I get about 5-7 hours of sleep.
I get a lot of sleep because I study 24/7 as in while I'm eating, brushing my teeth, etc. I'm constanly reviewing material in my head, even while I'm trying to sleep, when I wake up first thing in the morning, when I'm driving, etc. So I get enough sleep.

Upper middle aged female (now retired): about 7-8 hrs ...used to get around 6 while working (up at 5 a.m.) and that is not enough. apparently everyone needs at least 8 hrs a night. this is critical for controlling weight even tho you'd think you'd lose weight if you got less sleep.

if I have to work the next day I usually get 6 1/2 to 7. But if I get to sleep in, I usually get 8 to 9. I'm 22, right out of college.
