It's really hard when there are hundreds of thousands of people every year abusing the system by sitting on butts while the State takes care of their 5 illegitimate children and then use their food stamps to buy cigarettes, alchohol, and bon-bons.

It's all about your mindset. There are people who genuinely in a situation where they need government assistance. But, there are also a lot of people; not an isolated minority, that have resigned themselves to a miserable existance. If you set your mind for failure then failure is what you will get.

So, are you saying that certain ethnic people are not capable of working hard? Or are you saying that certain ethnic backgrounds simply can't learn and educate themselves enough to get a good job?

I can't believe that such racist comments are allowed on this board.

Everyone who is not mentally or physically handicapped IS capable of getting a decent job and supporting themselves. Some people make quite a good living even with physical handicaps.

The problem with welfare is that it steals money from hard-working citizens and gives that money to able-bodied people who ARE capable of holding down a job but choose not to.

How much of your income do you donate to shelters and organizations that help the "downtrodden?" Certainly with your attitude, you must be giving more than the minimum that the government takes, right? Do you put your money where your mouth is?

do you know that approximately 1/3 of the population of the US supports the other 2/3rds through welfare, SSI, and disability. my back is getting sore. there are no misconceptions about welfare. when 80% of recipients are second, third and fourth generation what do republicans not understand. no, not everyone is capable of self sufficiency but considering that most on welfare dont want to be, where is the real problem?? we were at the local high school with our daughter to pick up and PAY FOR her school books. the person in front of us had a voucher (free ticket for books, supposedly for the poor) but if he was so poor why was he wearing 150 dollar shoes, 80 dollar shorts, 70 dollar shirt, playing with an ipod, with a cell phone on his hip and probably 1500.00 worth of jewelry around his neck and fingers. since most of those with a voucher for books also get a voucher for school uniforms (three uni's can cost between 200 and 500 $$) and free lunch why do you think people like my wife and i are discusted by the welfare ripoff.

Because the fact remains that most welfare recipients in this country are white Americans. It messes with them.

I do not personally believe in our current welfare system. We need lifetime benefit caps and require the recipients attend classes to get skills for the job market. I have never received assistance from the government. I went in the army instead.

You can't turn around someone's life around with a monthly check. All that unlimited welfare leads to is a never-ending cycle of welfare dependency. The only people who really have no hope of succeeding on their own are the ones who believe they can't.

We have created a welfare state. Our government would be ahead to subsidize companies for taking people off of welfare. We need to get these third generation welfare people off the rolls and let them know they are expected to help produce. No completely free rides. We simply can't afford it.

The only welfare I'm interested in is free psychological counseling for you and all your liberal buddies. Hell, I'd even buy the beer for the shrink just to put up with listening to your sorry asses.

I would not be against welfare if all democrats were given an additional tax to pay to support welfare.

The Neo-Cons love welfare (in the form of huge tax cuts) for the filthy rich.
