It's called braxston hicks and it is perfectly normal. I should hope that her doc has explained this sensation to her but any way... It is the body basically preparing it self for delivery by having mini contractions, From what I remember it also helps slowly move the baby down and into birthing position ( very minimal movement .. maybe centimeters a day or so. Tell your sister not to worry but if she is still concerned have her talk to the doc. Don't count on this web site to keep her and the baby safe with our answers.

The deal is, your sister is experiencing her child getting ready to join her in the open fresh air of the world by letting her know that she is almost ready. The child is just moving around and when there is movement of the feet and head of the baby that is the tighting and loosing effect/feeling that she is uncomfortable with.

They are called Braxton Hicks contractions aka fake contractions. I'm pretty sure they are not real labor contractions, but make sure she lets the OBGYN DR know!

braxton hicks/false labor. i had this pretty bad my last trimester with my third child. here is a good article explaining the difference between labor and false labor. http://healthresources.caremark.com/topic/falselabor however, if she ever doubts it is false labor--or if her water breaks--she should go to the hospital or call her ob.

It could be thing moving around to make room. But I'm not sure you could call and ask a doctor what it could be.

The baby is doing push ups and sit ups in there so he/she can be good and strong when he/she comes out.
