Wrestling is entertainment, pure and simple.
But for those of you not interested in it, I would give you this bit of insight: if Batista or The UnderTaker grabbed you and slammed you into the mat at 60 mph, you will feel it.
The point is: if these guys did not practice their skills, someone would, and sometimes do, get physically hurt, or even killed. The Great Khali accidentally killed someone when his opponent botched his countering move. One wrestler was recently fined for using his wrestling skills outside of the ring. I really don't think its fair to treat pro-wrestlers with little or no respect. These guys work very hard to entertain millions of people, often getting injured in the process. You don't have to watch wrestling, and you don't have to like it, but please don't disrespect the people who work in that industry. Anyone one of them could seriously hurt you.

I have always thought this was a moot point. The word fake means not real, a replica, or pretended. The only part of wrestling that is fake is that its participants are not actually mad at each other. Their bodies are in awesome shape or they wouldn't be able to take the blows they take. It's all in the conditioning, as Jim Ross says.

If you're not a wrestling fan, you shouldn't care.

As a life long wrestling fan, raised by wresting fans, and married to a wrestling fan, I believe everyone says that because wrestling is considered low brow entertainment. I don't find it any more low brow than most popular TV.

I have many times corrected the term "fake", because although it is scripted, the physicality of wrestling cannot be faked. We fans know the outcomes are written ahead of time, but enjoy the blend of showmanship and athleticism.

The funny thing to me is that I know how high the ratings are for WWE, ECW and TNA, yet I seldom run into anyone who admits they watch any of them.

Because those people feel that it is their rightful duty to do so. They feel that by doing this that it makes them look good. And they do it to make themselves seem important.

Everyone knows that it is not real. However, the wrestlers are doing this for their living. I'd like to see the people who come in here and bash prowrestling to get in the ring and let The Big Show chokeslam them into the middle of the ring and see how it is.

It's a form of entertainment for us fans. If you don't like it that's fine but don't sit there and complain and bash when your probably a undercover WWE, ECW, TNA fan yourself!

over the hill comment isn't it however they do sometimes
bleed real red blood and require hospital care .... it's a somewhat violent form of entertainment nothing more people eat it up... and of course even reality TV has some element of realness to it!
so what's the point even fake is real when they are willing to bleed on stage or excuse me in the ring! Are plays fake or real
they certainly can impact the heart strings ...maybe once again fake is real!

You could say the same thing about watching movies, which we all know involves actors.

But at least the movies LOOK real, as opposed to wrestling where the actors are poor - busting chairs over people, conking their heads into the ringpost, throwing them on top of tables and running them into the turnbuckle, ect.

People find it easier to put something down and think they are being different by insulting wrestling and the fans that watch it, they think it will make them feel better running something else down and since everyone knows its staged its an easy target.they dont seem to realise that the genre it comes under namely sports entertainment is more or less telling you this anyway.the people that insult it have probably never ever sat down and watched it all the way through

Because people like to point out to everyone just how clever they are. They are very proud of themselves for having figured out that wrestling is a fake and they want to share their "genius" with the rest of the world.

They probably also hate how stupid wrestling is and will say anything to knock it.

Because that crap they call entertainment is a complete insult to real martial art fighters. Those meatheads pumped full of steriods are bad actors and have no real fighting skills watsoever. BJ Penn (a lightweight) could destroy the Kane or the undertaker or watever big guy is molesting other guys in the ring now adays
