Something is holding me back from doing things like in ballet and I cannot be as graceful, I'm not sure if it's in my arms or my back but does anyone have effective stretches for both. Oh yes shoulders too. I'm guessing it's because of cheer and the stiffness.

I cheered for 5 years.. and danced hip hop at the same time.

talk about 2 drastic differences... my cheer coaches were always telling me to be sharp and my dance coaches to be loose.

it doesnt have anything to do with muscle tightness or stretching. it is simply about body control.

it takes lots of practice but will get easier

do you plan on cheering at the same time.. or just dancing. if you're just dancing it will be easier because you wont have to continue to switch back and forth between sharp and loose.

honestly it sounds funny but shaking your limbs wildly actually will help loosen you up and get you in that midset.

like i said.. its mainly about body control.

good luck!!

p.s. if you just have tight muscles stretching would work. for shoulders.. sit on your knees.. with your butt down put your arms palm down out in front of you and reach as far as you can. if possible have someone push lightly on your back.. but not too hard. once you've reached as far as possible slowly rise your chest up over your shoulders and go into the "seal" position.

that should help!!

I used to be extremely unflexible until I started stretching every night before bed, it really helped me. You should also try streching after a hot bath or shower b\c it helps to loosen up tight muscles. Try a "v" sit and other leg streches, it tends to make you more flexible in your back and shoulder area aswell.

you should do some more exercises that stretch your muscles. And when you dance think about you dancing in a big crowd and people are cheering you on.

I would do lots of stretching. As we age, our metabolisms slow down. The less we exercise as we get older, the less flexible our blood vessles such get so that's why it's so important to keep moving as we age. Most old folks with canes I see nowadays remind me how I DON'T want to be. So keep moving!

If it's pain, I'd check with your doctor.
