I agree..
I've been wondering about this fact for quite a time. Some people are just so stereotypical, I mean their hatred to America is based mainly on the government activities towards their countries or beliefs, but the problem here is those people do really forget that there are many Americans out there who share with them the same perspective towards the gov, and many others who defend them and speak for their rights..
So, sadly I guess you're right, many good Americans are being hated as well, but I believe that everyday more people realize this fact.. so, by time.. this hatred is surely fading away..

True, the U.S. government is detested worldwide, but as for the people -- the feelings are more of annoyance rather than hate.
Here are some tips for Americans so they can avoid feeling like they are "hated":
* Stop being so arrogant. The whole world knows you're the no.1 world power. There's no need to push it
* Inches and pounds are from the middle ages -- get with the program!!
* DO admit that among the developed countries, the U.S. has the biggest gap between rich and poor
* While racism exists everywhere, DO admit that the U.S. is one of the most racists nations in the world (you just do a good job of disguising it by giving minorities sports scholarships and opportunities to come out on TV)
* As tourists, don't wear beach or hiking gear when you're in a restaurant or in a public building -- most citizens overseas find that boorish and distasteful
* Keep your voice volume to a minimum -- other people don't want to know who you screwed two nights ago
* Have you ever said "Immigrants should learn English!"? Well, it works both ways. Do make an effort to learn at least a few phrases of the local language of the country you're visiting rather than talking LOUD and SLOW while standing inches away from a person's face
* Remember that the locals live there, and have lives; they are not theme park employees, so don't treat them as such.
* And NO, the rest of the world is NOT wishing they were born American, most people are proud of what they are; they just don't feel the need to shove it down people's throat.

Only a tiny cluster of people actually Hate americans many Do Not... and for those who do, they are aggressive because:
1. The PEOPLE are the Government, by merit of democracy the people CHOSE the Government that represent them. Choose a Camel and others assume you are a camel, choose a swan and others will see you as a swan
2. The media propogates the negative sides of America, but how many of the vast majority see the Valiant Hearts that stood firm during the Katrina Tragedy? How many know of the concerned souls that fight for the benefits and welfare of war torn victims?
3. Religious and Political Intolerants that blame all their problems on the strongest nations of the world, having someone ELSE to blame for their problems is easier than admitting that many of their problems are self inflicted ( this includes America as well... if USA attacks another country , don't expect them to NOT retaliate )
4. The Political Leaders that represent the Nation, what to expect if a leader goes self-righteous into declaring they are chosen by divine right to do divine actions. If the TOP of the ladder is one way, naturally the masses would think the rest of the ladder is the same.... same way now most people "assume" these days, if one is muslim/arab then one is a terrorist/bomber. People behave like herded sheep... the Leaders are the key... the shepherds

I think its because of the arrogance that a lot of Americans show. They seem to give the impression that everything they do, is bigger and better than the rest of the world. The rest of the world probably hates the fact that, by majority, you voted for the thickest leader ever to be your president again.
Lastly, none of my ancestors went to America thankfully.

Most hatred of Americans comes from the actions of our government. Since our government was originally designed to be of the people, for the people, by the people, that is pretty much how it is looked upon. But that ideology has been pretty much blown out of the water for some time now. Our government pretty much operates on its own now and is usually not a reflection of the general population. Corporate America, greed, and power now fuel our leadership. Elections are fixed, laws are passed to meet hidden agendas, our rights seem to be shrinking. Our government preaches Democracy abroad while it is failing here. It is time to weed out the old carreer politicians who have lost sight as to why they are there and elect real people with real insight as to what this country stands for and needs.

Don't judge other countries by what you see on Yahoo!Answers or on the media because its all fabricated. I'm an American and I have been to three other countries which were Switzerland, Italy, and (gasp!) France. I went to the place that supposedly hate Americans most (well, besides Iraq I guess) and met nothing but the friendliest people and I was there for quite a while. They understand that we cannot control everything our government does, and they understand that the "ugly American" that they see yelling at the person in the small shop does not represent all Americans because they have "ugly" people from their countries to. Most people probably do hate our government but they by no means hate us.
Edit: Aussiegirl, Some Americans on Yahoo may show arrogance because we are ALWAYS having to stand up for our country because people on here are ALWAYS putting us down...wouldn't you get a little bit tired of that?

As a free country, we elect our leaders. They are supposed to be for the people by the people. Other countries feel that if we elected them, then our leaders reflect what all American citizens feel (which isn't true). Maybe, immigrants from other countries are sometimes viewed as sell outs to their native lands.
You are right. Ancestors are rarely taken into account.

well, first - we are represented by our government - this is from us voting- so if other people/countries do not like who we elected to represent us than you shall see why they may not generally like us as a people.
no, I don't think they are harming their ancestors because over time we all evolve into different peolpe, different looks and different ideas than our ancestors- over time some of us have joined with so many other races- creating new looks of people that it's hard to even tell who theeir ancestors may have been or where they were from.
i think Americans overall give the impression of being greedy, wasteful and arogant- but so be it- our ancestors must have been the same way- that's why so many from other countries come to america- just to get a piece of the pie.

People started out hating the Regime in charge but later found out that the regime is actually representative of the general views of the American public. That is to say that the average American, rather than being a clear minded intelligent individual, is actually a president worshipping moron with no free will. So we have no choice really. What we hate over here is the blind following of a creed or policy whether it is right or not. That's why most of us hate Tony Blair.
