Both are used to treat anxiety, Xanax is a benzodiazapine thus quite addictive while Buspar interferes with the reuptake of serotonin.

Xanax (alprazolam) is in the benzodiazepine class of medications while Buspar (buspirone) is in its own class. Buspar is not a benzodiazepine as someone had replied.

Both medications are used in the treatment of anxiety disorders, but the exact mechanism is different (different receptors).

Xanax does become addicting, both physically and psychologically. Buspar is not supposed to be addicting, but any medication that you depend on after awhile to moderate your mood, in my opinion, can be considered addicting.

I prefer Xanax. And not everyone abuses it and gets addicted. Neither do they have to become addicted to Valium if they are simply taking it to alleviate anxiety.
I've taken Buspar. It makes me very dizzy and out-of-it. I couldn't do the tree-pose in my yoga class on the mornings I'd taken Buspar. Hate the stuff.

buspar is an anti-anxiety without the addicting properties. it is something you take every day and it does not interfere with functioning.

xanax is a horrible anti-anxiety that is over prescribed and abused. it is highly addicting. xanax makes one non existant. you cannot function on xanax. this drug should only be used for trauma and short term.

buspar is the way to relieve anxiety and live.

I take xanax to sleep, and buspar for daily anxiety. They are both benzodiazapines.

I like Xanax, but I take Klonopin. Prescription narcotics are my drug of choice. I don't like wine.
