I don't pay any attention to it at all unless I'm scheduled to fly - there's always more hassle at the airport when it goes up, so I arrive a tad earlier. But the main reason it goes up seems to be to distract people from something in the news that the Bushies want us to not pay any attention to.
Bad news of any kind, domestic or international = an excuse to play mind games with people by raising the terror alert.

Not at all. You can't cry wolf for years and then expect people to pay any attention there after.
During the mid-80's while in college in Germany, I recall a day when the Germans tested their various air raid sirens. Nuclear Alert sounded first, then chemical, and then biological, which really made your spine shiver. I recall several of us (all Americans) asking our German prof. if it was real....he looked at this watch and said, we'll know in another 5 minutes.
Of course he was messing with us, because it was quite routine, but it made quite an impact on me. I'll never forget the awful sound of that biological attack siren....
Did I have a point..yes...we need to use the alerts sparingly, so that when an attack does occur, people have been paying attention.

I really don't think about it much on a day to day basis. For some reason I feel much safer knowing that some kind of system is in place. Being a military wife, I go on base once a week and I do realize the importance of it then (ID check at the gate) and I am grateful for it.

It makes me pay a little more attention. I make sure my family is emergency prepared. And I make sure I talk to my baby sister every day, since she got back from Iraq with the Reserves, and now has switched to the National Guard, so she's eligible to go back over.

Well, I just sit at my PC and shoot more terrorists on America's army and Battlefield2. Speaking of which, I think I'll go do that right now.
