Yes, I am a firm believer that you should always hire the best and most qualified people for the job. I also believe if you repeatedly always hire the best person for the job, you will end up with a diverse group.

They probably should be rethought at the very least. They haven't really achieved their original goals. Affirmative Action has been around a long time...and do African Americans feel any better off now than before Affirmative Action?

I would venture to say that the answer is no. Certainly, the private sector hasn't changed that very much. The public sector has probably gone too far the other way and that's not good either.

I was a little shocked many years ago when I went to the city hall in St. Louis and was very nearly the only white person in the building. I'm not sure that's exactly representative of the population of that great city.

I am certain my response will perceived as rascist. My apologies as I do not intend it to be.

Yes. It causes hate and resentment towards minorites by whites. The fact that it still exists sturs emotions and rage among whites although the program itself does not help out minorities to the extent it brings them down. There is no statistics on an opinion question like this.

Yes.... Because affirmative action is really just a nice word to say we wont give it to the white guy. The fact of the matter is that the white male is the most discriminated people in the U.S. Why you may ask....Becasue it is socially acceptable to discriminate against the white male. It is ok to have black and latino college funds... It is ok to have black only schools and classes.... It is ok to talk bad about white people....Racism towards the white male is ok becasue there are more of them...... Sad but true.

AA degrades those whom it is supposed to help. It assumes that a minority doesn't have the talent, skills, or ambition to achieve success on their own. Everyone has unfair obstacles to overcome. Assuming that someone can't overcome these obstacles based solely on their skin color is insulting. While the law of the land supported racial favoritism at one time, it does not today. There is still discrimination in one form or another against all races today, however, they can be overcome. MLK said it best: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

No. Just because 5 first answers say yes, but statistics about minorities in USA shows a really terrible situtation... Many supplementary programs should be added too.

Yes, and I believe it has been in Florida. But Affirmative action is now a tool used to discriminate. Its time has come to lay this outdated program to rest.
