If you are asking about the difference in how they sound, the difference between hard and soft sounds in the English language are determined by where in the mouth they are formed. Hard letter sounds are formed in the back of the mouth, usually by pressing the tongue against the top rear of the mouth or nearly to the throat. Soft sounds are produced by the front of the mouth and usually with the tongue in a flattened position. The "g" in good is a hard sound, the "g" in giraffe is soft. If you need more help, a good basic phonics book on an K-3rd grade level will give more in depth explainations and practice.

If they bounce off your ears like balloons or cotton balls then they are soft sounds; if they hurt like a softball flying a foul that hits the side of your head, then they are hard.
