I am moving to Austin in a few months. And, I am going there next week to find housing. What are the good AND bad areas so that I know where to look for a house or apartment.
Also, does anyone have any nice 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom apartment suggestions for my daughter and I? If you have any suggestions can you direct me to their company website so I can look at pictures?
Thanks so much!

East Austin is not as bad as someone above mentioned. South Austin and Downtown are pretty congested with morning and afternoon traffic, but the toll roads are going to be opening soon so this might cut the traffic a little. North Austin and even surrounding towns like Pflugerville, Round Rock, Georgetown and Cedar Park are good places to look. Apartmentguide.com is a good place to look for apartments in Austin. Especially since they have good reviews on the apartments and everything else.

I've lived all over Austin so I can say there really isn't a "horrible" part. I would stay away from East Austin from the Baseball Stadium to well below the River. If you're looking for an apartment or duplex, check out the Parmer Lane area. Everything you need will be right at your fingertips and not much crime.

Yes the good areas are all the ones outside the state of texas, and the bad areas are the ones inside the city limits of Austin.

Here's a sentence I thought I would never say. I agree with Poopie. Now Ben on the other hand is an idiot. Austin is an amazing place to live. I love the live music :-D

It's really kind of hard to answer that without knowing what appeals to you...I mean, do you want to live in an area that's closer to Stuff to Do, would you want to be close to the Hike and Bike Trail, or do you want to live in more of a suburb type area? And what's your price bracket? There are neighborhoods that suddenly got all full of moneyed hipsters and nobody can afford them anymore, but if you can afford it you may want that. Do you want to live close to your job? Etc.

I lived around 620 and Parmer lane, there are a few nice apartment complexes near there. Spraddle Creek Apartments, do a search for that complex.
