people probably think emo means emotional because the term started when people where talking about a particular style of music which was rather emotional. Rather than call it emotional music which is rather long winded they shortened it to emo.

Omgsh i hate this question! Emo is emotional and Gothic is a religion that was catogorized in the early 1800's by a group of ppl who called themselves gothic because what they believed in NOT what they wore or looked like! Emo is emotional and Gothic is a religion that died out!
