If it turns out to not be muted, the next thing to check is whether your speakers are plugged into power and whether you put the plug from the speakers into the AUDIO OUT jack not the MICROPHONE jack. You can run a test if you go to SETTINGS then SOUND and then choose TROUBLESHOOT

If you say that u haven't mute the sound, then check that the voulume config is set so that u can listen to it (aka...the volume might be set to the minimum).
Now if this is not hte case, then there is probably something wrong with the sound card in ur CPU (either it might be messed up or its just not connected all the way in). To check if it is indeed the sound card, listen for some unusual beeps dunring the POST Test (right after u boot up ur computer).

I hope this helps, good luck !

Check your audio "drivers." You may have dumped them somehow by accident somewhere along the way. This just happened to me - last week-end. I bought a new pair of plug-in speakers - nothing fancy - and couldn't get them to work. I bought them because my old ones weren't working and I thought the speakers had just quit on me.
Well, after trying everything in the book - including looking for my receipt from Wal-Mart and trying to download drivers - I ended up resetting my desktop back about 6 months (after saving everything on it to a disc). It worked. Now I have TWO sets of working speakers.
I recently got a Treo cel phone and think I screwed up my desktop when I loaded some music software.
Give it a try - or re-boot the whole thing from the beginning. Make sure you save stuff to a disc first, though. Good Luck!

Try looking in your lower right side of screen, look at all options there, and click on the speaker icon, or just get into audio control. Make sure that the bars are not all the way down. If they are, put em half-way up.
If all else fails, try restarting the computer. It helps sometimes.

if the audio setting is not muted and the speakers are fine then you need to check if the audio file has been corrupted. Go to the device manager (right click my computer>select device manager) to see if there's a question mark (yellow) to the audio. if so, you may need to re-install the audio driver.

First of all make sure that the speaker plug is in the speaker receptical and not the Michrophone input.
Then if that is not it, check the sound card out.
