Yea, It is ok to drive the car with that one fuse out but it makes for a boring ride not having the tunes. The reason that the fuse blew is obviously because there is a short in the wire to the dome light. Whenever a wire comes in contact with any metal "ground" part on the car, it causes a short and blows the fuse. Now the wire has to be bare for this to occur. Something must have torn the protective plastic off of the wire for this to occur. This problem is also going to be easy for you to fix because you already know where the problem is! The smoke was coming from the short! All you need to do now is just trace the wire where the smoke was and fix the burnt piece of wire. Good Luck!

the mechanic might not be a rip off. some problems like this can be very time consuming to find. however if you go to the location of the smoke, there is a short in a hot wire to ground. it is possible if you take out the dome light fixture you might be able to locate the short, bare wire etc.. look for melted insulation on the wire. however someone must have put in too big of a fuse or it should have blown before the smoke came from where ever.

Your short to ground is somewhere near the dome light pop off the lens and unscrew the light unplug the light replace the fuse. Still Smoke? Besides I take offence to the tern "RIP OF MECHANIC" Some time the dome light gets pinched under the dome light screw or the sunvisor will pinch the dome light wire. with lighted mirror sunvisor which same wire powers all that is wrong you might un screw the sun visors to see if that where the short circuit is too.

it's probably ok...but if it don't blow that fuse then i'd be worried about what the problem is. Fuses are there to blow in the event of something going wrong. Either you are using to high of rated fuse or there is something seriously wrong. I would unhook the radio by way of disconnecting the hot wire to it first. perhaps disconnect the ground as well or completely remove the radio. then put the fuse you are talking about back in and see what happens.
In most cases someone has installed or reinstalled the radio improperly and that will cause major problems.

You have a short in the wiring by the light. With the fuse out, there is not current to the light, so there is no danger in driving the vehicle. Have the wiring checked, the problem is near where you saw the smoke!

as long as you don't put a fuse in it you,ll be OK for a while ,but it needs to be repaired,,there has to be someone there where you live that could repair it at a reasonable price,,what it need,s is a new light assembly i it,,they were bad to short out on those cars,,i have replaced 2 of them,,but i went to junk yard and got used ones to put in it,,and they worked fine,,you might want to consider using a used one also,,it beats buying a new one,and its a easy repair,,i own a repair shop,,and i charged 40 bucks parts and labor to fix one,,there really easy to do,,use the price i gave as a guide if you find a good one,,i hope this helps,,good luck with it.

no i wouldnt drive it till i got it fixed.ill tell you what you can do to get your radio working.take the hot wire and ground wire from your radio and run them to a toggle switch and to the battery, and when you dont want to listen to it just hit the toggle switch, but for dome light all i can think of is you got a short in the wiring somewhere.trace down the wiring and repair it.
