Like all living creatures they breathe air, use the oxygen and blow off carbon dioxide.

Oxygen! If these are pets, I would like to say that we have six small ones which are pets of our sons, and they can be dangerous to your health! When cleaning their "home", make sure that you don't touch your face, and wash your hands well each time you handle them! Turtles must have a way to come up out of the water and have dry ground with a pool of clean water available.

Most pet stores won't sell turtles anymore because they have caused death in the owners because of lack of knowledge. Just remember to keep them and yourself clean. Always remember to wash hands completely after handling, and cleaning. Supervise children during visits, and ensure that they don't touch door knobs or other items BEFORE they wash. Often times, children forget and touch the fridge to get goodies for their pet turtle after they have already touched them! this should not be done.

Are you kidding? Cellular respiration requires oxygen...that goes for ALL animals.
