"Emo" was originally a term short for emotional which described a deep and often depressing genre of music. It has become a stereotype of people who listen to this sort of music. Generally an emo is someone who wears girl pants and band shirts and track jackets with studded belts, dyes their hair black, wears black thick-rimmed glasses, is very introverted, writes or blogs a lot, writes depressing music, and cuts themself. NOTE-- I'm not judging them, this is just the stereotype. There are videos on YouTube (try Finding Emo, there's one by that title that's pretty decent) that explain it all.

Emo is short for emotional. Emo music is dark, depressing music that emos can listen to while they cut themselves. They sweep their hair into their faces, and wear eyeliner with girls jeans (both of which look totally hot on them.)

EMO is short for "emotional," meaning a subculture of individuals who complain about society (they whine too much). Their music is just like what they do...execpt set to musical tone.
A lot of people sometimes call them whiners because they whine too much about their parents and life in general.
