Never heard of the "national FIFA Cup." If you are talking the World Cup, uh, are you that helpless you can't look it up on the Web...uh, it was Brunei with a 8-0 victory over the Faroe Islands.

Italy won but I think they didn't play in a "clean" way. They pushed others players, hit them , etc like when one of them hit with the elbow an US player if I'm not wrong.
They needed the title so as to bring some happiness to the country which wasn't doing well.
France proved they had a better game beating them without Zidane.

Italy won the 2006 WC, because they did play very well, albeit, the elimination rounds were muddy. If you want to look at the games in a collective way, France should have probably won, but if you isolate the game, then Italy is the honored winner.
