I wass nominated in Spanish for the Governor's Honors Program. This will take place for 6 weeks next summer. THere is an interview process and if I make it, I will study Spanish for 6 weeks at a university, However, the Spanish club (Which I'm part of) is taking a 2 week trip to Spain next summer. Here is the problem: The Spain trip is $2500 and requires a $95 down-payment and it is garunteed that I can go. GHP is payed for by the state, but not garunteed that I'll be selected. Which would you do, as I can only do one of the two?

I would pay the $95 non-refundable deposit for the trip as a back up plan. I studied abroad in Spain and it is awesome and if you get the opportunity then go. But if the governer's school thing doesn't work out, at least, you have a spot reserved for the trip. If you don't have the $95 I would talk to your parents and let them know your dilema. Maybe they can work something out where you can "pay" them back by doing extra chores. It's also a good time to hit up grandparents.

I studied abroad when I was younger and it was the most amazing experience in my life. If I were you I would hold out for the 6 week opportunity. If you do not get it then you can always take the 2 week trip next year.

Are you a senior? If so you can talk to the teacher and maintain contact. Then you can go the following year even if you have graduated. There is usually an extra fee for adults of $10.00 a night.

I am a gambler but I would go for governors honors. Spain will always be there. You can always go later for a summer abroad during college, but if you get governors honor you will meet new people and have a much greater opportunity in the long run. I hope that this helps.
