Greenland is an island, not part of any continent. Like Tasmania, Madagascar or Indonesia. It is however part of the North American tectonic plate, but that is not the same as being geographically part of the North American continent.
Also remember, Greenland is not as large as it looks on the maps. When you take a sphere, and stretch it out onto a 2 dimensiaonal square paper, it distorts the proportions of things, making objects towards the top edges look much larger. Look on a globe and you will see that it is an independant, large island about halfway between Europe and N. America :)

Greenland is NOT a continent, but it is considered part of North America along with Baffin Island and other large icy islands nearby; however, Greenland belongs to Denmark, whereas the large neighboring islands to the west are part of Canada. Greenland is also officially the largest island in the world. It is smaller than Austrialia, which itself is considered the smallest continent in the world.

Greenland is geographically considered part of the North American continent, and is the world's largest (non-continent) island, with approximately 85% of it covered with ice.
