The people in the twin towers jumped from the building to avoid suffocating, and burning up, but couldn't officials have put the trampoline kind of things that catch people from crashing into the floor?

I agree that there could have been some sort of canopy to catch the people or some inflatable bags that they use for stunt work. There was so much chaos going on I dont think that there was time to even consider all the possibilities for rescue. I do think that there should be non flamable blanket or sheets stored on every floor so in the event of an evacuation due to fire. The people can put it around themselves and get to the fire exits.

From that height, the chances of hitting a trampoline are virtually nil.
The officials weren't there when the explosions started happening on all the floors.

The people in the towers were to high up for the trampoline to work. They would have gone right through it.

This IS a legitimate question, however, the height from which they jumped coupled with the estimated "terminal velocity" (no 'pun' intended) and the limits to our emergency gear/ technology made for an almost impossible way to help the "jumpers." But it would be intelligent to devise a quickly deployed foam-polymer that could effectively "absorb" the impact energy of the fragile human body. To date though, I've not heard of such an advanced technology having been developed... sounds to me as though you have just spelled out one of your "life's work goals." You'll now have to become a "materials scientist/engineer" to make this technology a reality! GET TO IT!

From that height, the people would have bounced right off the trampolines. I think if you work in a building that high you should have a parachute that base jumpers use.

I don't think anything on the ground could stop their bodies from being severely hurt when they landed/bounced on it. I would like to know why there were no helicopters trying to save people. They use helicopters in the hard to reach areas and for ocean rescues...why couldn't they rescue at least some of the people stuck up there?

The whole thing was just a botched mess that everyone has admitted to failure in protecting us. We should hold the Federal Government, the FAA and the Air Force responsible for allowing it to get so out of hand. The lax attitude that was displayed on that day will be the downfall of America.

There's no way you could have a trampoline that could catch someone going that fast without breaking or hurting the individual.
