It was common on the Mustang, and I have seen it many times. There was a voluntary recall concerning this. Recall #97V18 was issued asking Mustang owners to bring their vehicles in to have the edge of the hood inspected for separation. This recall has expired long ago. If you are the most recent owner of this vehicle, more than likely the previous owner neglected to take the vehicle in for repair when they receved a letter from Ford telling them to do so. Or if you had the vehicle all along, the recall notices were ignored, so the problem was never fixed. The repair would have been free, but now it is going to require either a new hood or a repair at a body shop.
