Imagine you were in a group (strangers) participating in a test. You are all informed that if you can all wait 1 minute and not push the button in front of you, you will each win $1,000. However, if someone pushes that button before the minute is up, they will get one hundred dollars, and no one else will get anything. You know nothing of the character of the other participants and are not allowed to discuss the matter beforehand. Would you push the button or hope for the best?

Push the button. No way I'm going to let someone else push it first.

I could use a hundred bucks, but i could use a thousand a whole lot more. I would hope for the best, i think, because most people i know would like the larger sum.
