You must first know and believe it is not going to last. You too will
as all things nature made, leave your life and past behind you.
Nature built, and designed humans to survive, but not liv eforever and someday humans will undoubtedly live into the hundreds of years to enable them to survive space travel when our planet will no longer support us. And that is getting closer every years as our sun dims.
What happens after death no one knows, it's all opinion and assumption that we will go into an after life because God so loves us or soem of us.
MY personal opinion is that when we die we just do that. we die, and go back to the dust we originated from so many millions of years ago.I personally think everyone will enjoy their later lives if they do the best they can and treat others as they wish to be treated.
You have to reach deep into your mind (or if religious your soul) and determine what you want to be while alive, and go for that goal with everything you have. All in all the last person you have to satisfy is you, and how well you do that will determine how well you adjust to the idea that mortality is not forever.

What is your Net Creative contribution to the universe? What have you done to help the species continue? It doesn't have to be big, just more useful than the things you have consumed.
Or, you can read Steven Covey's books about the 7 habits of highly effective people, and the 4 things people need: to Live, to Learn, to Love, and to Leave a Legacy.
I would focus on the last one myself, and help others with their pursuit of the other three as part of a community/family.

Laugh at the ridiculous nature of the human condition.
When my great-grandmother lay dying, we surrounded her bed, and told funny family stories (about her, especially) and laughed until our sides ached and we didn't know if our tears were for sorrow or for unadulterated joy.
Our laugher was so loud, so pure, so real and true, that she woke up out of a coma to comment on it, and we got to spend a last few, precious hours with her, before her body gave out.
That's how I want to live and how I want to die--laughing, loving, sharing.

Go and reproduce.
Your egg will become human being (hopefully),
and it's your cell, so when you're gone, part of you is still here!!!!
It is called the circle of life.
Every body's afraid of dying, but we're all curious what's happens
then.
I read in a book that angels are spending their time (in Heaven)
discussing theories about God. *
So, even in death, we don't know a thing about life.
We should learn as much as we can, maybe that's our purpose.

Learn how to bypass it. Build a clone of yourself at your genetic engineering lab and have you consciousness electronically transferred into the clone. When its in the healthy new body you can just throw the old one away like you always do.

We all just here to die. The day you are born you start to die.
My grandmother always told us that this life is actually hell... When we die we have served out our time and we get to go back to heaven.
I truly believe that. Cause if there is one thing I know it's that this life is definitely a living hell.
