Yes. They are there to remind each of the wrestlers of the "script" of moves.

No. The wrestlers usually work there match out ahead of time, sometimes at house shows, the wrestlers may call there matches with each other on the fly, with only the final sequence being dictated ahead of time. The ref does however have an earpiece on and can recieve instructions from the management backstage which he would then pass onto the wrestlers. Sometimes matches run longer than the time alotted for them management may then want the wrestlers to skip certain moves and go to the finish , which would be passed on via the ref. Also if something gets screwed up, such as the top table fallling off in the TLC match at Unforgiven, the ref might pass on instructions from management at to what to do to fix the problem.

If you are up close, you'll notice an ear piece in the refs ear. It isn't what moves to do, etc.... That stuff is pretty much impromptu/improvised as they work together. If you look close you'll see a whisper in an ear between wrestlers or a sign/press/head nod between them. The mike in the refs ear is to transmit time and length of match and if something goes wrong to transmit a back up plan for an ending. The matches are watched in the back and that's how they make sure they do it in a timely manner.

The refs do not tell the guys what to do. I wrestled for a few years, and i can tell you that the refs do not tell the guys what moves to do. The 2 guys will talk it out as they are doing it. The only thing the ref is for is to make the count, and to make sure they know the finash, and or to give a blade out once and a while.

Referees jobs in wrestling matches, in terms of kayfabe (thats the word for the whole "storyline" part) are to make sure no illegal moves are done, and to disqualify someone if they are caught cheating. Referees in matches in the WWE or any other organization do not tell wrestlers what to do unless they need to wrap the match up, then that is secretly told to them outside of kayfabe (where noone can hear them).

NO, THE WRESTLERS CALL EVERY MOVE. THE REFS ONLY ARE A BACK-UP IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG.

the refs are always asking if they are ok.if you can read their lips sometimes, you can see them say ,'you ok?'.they are an integral part of the match.
