They do Sufi Dancing Weds nights in the Islamic section - Khan el Khalili which is a great place to wander and haggle.

Tea houses are a great place to hang out in at night while th emen smoke sheesha pipes and play backgammon long into the night.

There are some nightclubs in Zamalek. Belly Dancing clubs area lso all around.

You can take a dinner cruise on the Nile complete with bellydancing. Or a feluca - old tradtional boat - cruise around the Nile.

As for the pyramids, you do a camel ride and catch the cheesy sound and light show in the evening with Sir Richard Burton as the Sphinx.

As someone else mentioned there are other Pyramids than the ones at Giza - Sakkara has a step pyramid older than the Giza pyramids and Dashur has two older pyramids as well.

BTW it'll be a bit chilly in december especially at night. I froze on a feluca down in Aswan. Take a sweater.

It really depends where you'll be going, in Egypt there are as you mentioned, the pyramids, there is the Red sea and the Mediterranean of course and there is so much difference between cities located on either seas. In Cairo night life is available of course in most hotels. There are lots of night clubs and bars, many malls and shopping areas, you can take a felucca in the Nile one day. You name it...You can do almost anything in Egypt, but of course sea and felucca plans won't be very convenient due to the weather at that time.

Go to youre local book store, and purchase Lonely Planet travel guide for Egypt.
Ive been there twice..And there is soooooo much to do!!! I still have to go back because Im not finished exploring this fascinating country!!! It really depends, how long will you be there, what is your budget, are u an Adventurous type, etc. You can start by Cairo ( or course pyramids, Museum, Coptic area of Cairo, Bazaars, Huge cemetery) , take a night train to Aswan ( Abu Simbel, Elephantine Islands) Felucca or Nile cruise to Luxor ( Luxor temple, Karnak temple, Valley of the King/Queens, Felucca on the Nile) plane to Sharm el Sheik...Then take a cab ( a bit $$ but worth it) to Dahab ( snorkel, scuba, bedouin way of life, Mount Sinai )...
You really have to go!!! its a trip of a life time! Enjoy!

I'm Egyptian, who live in USA and I know what you are looking for.
If you goto Cairo, you will find that you are in a city that never sleep, 24 hours of shopping, restaurants, theater and even you can walk at 2 or 3 am in the street , Egypt is the safest country on earth. people like tourists and they love to help them alot. I advice you to go to Hurghada city or Sharm city if you would like to see the most beautiful beachs in the world. If you would like to know Islam goto Azhar Mosque in downtown cairo and they will answer all your questions. Simply, anything comes to your mind to do in egypt, you will find it. but stay away from the girls there because it's a matter of respect. The egyptians don't like anybody to play arround their girls or daughters even if he is egyptian. You will love it. and go through a travel company which will organize everything for you there.

I have been to Egypt 2 times and I loved it. Even though they were military trips. I enjoyed going downtown watching how papyrus was made and seeing the perfume palaces where they make the perfume. I was kind of disappointed when I went to the pyramids. I could not really enjoy them because these Egyptian kids kept bugging us to buy little things that they were selling. Other than that the place to go to is downtown Giza!

There are alot of Pyramids not in Cairo, lots of famous cities, you should look it up on a travel site because I don't know what peaks your interest. I think I remember hearing the markets are cool and I don't know about the nightlife. Have fun, it will be a privilege and a blast! Just don't get killed. =)

I advice u to visit Hyper one mall on the entrance of Shaikh Zaid city (6 October city), and also u can visit Carfour mall near this place on the entrance of Cairo - Alexandrya desert road.
Both of them r so nice place for shopping and having meals in the American restaurants like KFC.
