The 1927 Yankees are the 2nd** best team of all time, so yes they would win the majority of 7 game series against the 98 Yankees. The 27 Yanks had better pitching... **No, the best was not the 61 Yankees. The best ever, when all the numbers are put into a computer is the 1906 Chicago Cubs... The 48 Indians were a darn good team as were the 54 Indians that lost to the Giants. My fav team was the 53 Dodgers(105-49), even though they did lose the series to the Yanks. C - Roy Campanella 1B - Gil Hodges 2B - Jim Gilliam SS - Pee Wee Reese 3B - Billy Cox LF - Jackie Robinson CF - Duke Snider RF - Carl Furillo A little more pitching to go with that lineup and you would have had one of the very best ever...

Of these two teams the 1998 Yankees win and probably in 4 or 5 games. That's a shock I bet! The 1998 Yankees were better conditioned, had much better pitching, had a much better bullpen. (I doubt that the 1927 Yankees knew what a bullpen was. The 1998 Yankees were by far better defensively. Their lineup would have play havoc on the bigger, slower 1927 athletes. Frankly the 1961 Yankees, in my mind, were the best Yankee team ever and perhaps the greatest team of all time. They could match up with any team past or present. EDIT: Melissa, sweetheart! We must agree to disagree! I've looked into the scenario on several occasions and I'm convinced that, although the series looks good on paper, it would not be much of a series at all. Rivera in his prime would be enough to stop any late inning problems that might have occurred. That's just one example of the total dominance of the 1998 team. The 1999 team was even better! Another factor to consider: In the old days players came to spring training to "get into playing shape". Can you imagine what would happen to anyone who pulled that little stunt? XO Phil

One of the most OVERRATED teams in MLB history. They are considered great by some people, but the truth is that they were a one-dimensional team that could hit for power and nothing more. Their pitching staff was mediocre at best, except for Ford. The other 3 in the rotation never had another good year. The Yankees had 2 very good players in their primes, Maris with his best season ever, and Mantle with one just as good. Those two were the ones winning games, but the team as a whole wasn't anything special. To make matters worse, Bobby Richardson batted leadoff, which could be the dumbest thing Casey Stengel ever did. Who knows how many more games could have been won had the worst hitter on the club batted ninth instead of FIRST?
