I dont want to hurt them, just keep them out of the damn security lights! I was thinking maybe one of those guns that shoots plastic balls, but i dont like hurting animals.

Well where i live its normal for animals to roam free, my next question is going to be how to keep your neighbors dog from crapping in your yard when youre not home! Finding the owner would be a great idea, but im not about to trapse from house to house. And this little bastard is brazen, if i leave my door open he runs right in the house.

Sprinkle some Cayenne pepper in the areas that you want to keep the cats away from. If they get that in their snoot they will think twice about returning. It will make them very uncomfortable but will not harm them.

Even a bean bag bullet could kill an animal if it got hit right. Also note that you can go to jail for that. I know you are looking for a humane way but even that you are considering other ways is not good. I would catch them and give them to the humane society so they can find homes where people dont let them roam free to bother people. I cant say the owners dont care about them cause my cat used to go outside all the time but he pretty much stayed near the house after MYSTERIOUSLY coming home with a broken jaw that had to be wired. But I dont know what else to tell you unless you know the owners and you can talk to them about it...?

If your going to be available, squirting water at them from a hand held water bottle will scare them and yelling at them at the same time. After a few times of this happening they will probably try to avoid your yard. I have some plants that I didn't want the cats to lay in and I placed some pointy ocean shells on the top of the soil. They were not enough to hurt them but made it a place that was not comfortable to lay. I am glad you are considerate about the cats health and safety as well.good luck with that.

There are chemical scents you can buy at most general stores that when sprayed around your home, will keep animals at bay. Also, you may want to try a small voltage electric fence. It would have to put out a wide current, so that the cats would not be able to jump over it. You will pay some money for that though. I would get a sprinkler.

I don't know why cat's would like your security lights so much, but have you considered putting wiring over them? There are plants you can use that cat's don't like the smell of, home rememdies that you can use on the perimeter of your yard, motion detector devices that squirt water. You could always plant catnip in your neighbors yard to attract them out of yours. lol

I saw before, they make a moiton sensing sprinkler. They sense movement and turn on the water. I have seen them recommended for keeping deer out of gardens. So I would think those would keep cats away too. Now...where to get those...hmm. Good luck.

If you can afford it spread cracked pepper to the area frequented by cats or make a chilli spray by soaking diced chillies (jalapenos seem to be the hottest) in some warm water and again spray the area you want cat free.

You are very thoughtful/kind to not want to hurt animals.. I could never hurt one.. BUT.. your kitty situation...is not easy... perhaps going out when they are there and scaring them away.. they might learn. It is unfortunate that a number of people let their cats run wild.. I do not like to see that.

I'll read these answers real good. Wish I knew. Perhaps getting a big dog? Nope, tried that.
