I would think it depends on what style and what you use it for. A laptop generally has a useful life of about 3 years. A desktop typically 5 years. Sometimes you will be wanting to run software that will only run on a newer machine and that may force your hand.

Upgrade it until it is so outdated that it can no longer be upgraded, or until you need something more powerful to support your games and software. That way, you know you got everything from it as you possibly can. Of course, if you have the money, go ahead and buy the latest and greatest.

it all depends on what you use it for...if its gaming you should change it every 1-2 years...cuz games will not wait for you....if you use it for work...lets say...word excel powerpoint....even pentium 2-3 processors can do it...so u don't need a new computer until it fails

for as long as it is still working fast , don't bother with all this new upgrades every year except u are a bussiness man. just try to upgrade it when there is problem.
