Excellent question. As you know there is a 9 month trial work period where you can earn any amount of money without it having an effect on SSD. After 9 months there is a three month extended period--but there have been so many changes in SSD lately that you're best served by seeking a benefits counselor. Many nonprofits provide this service at no charge.

ask your case worker. They told me that for every $1.00 i earn they subtract 27 from SSI. I had a handicapped friend once who worked 20 hours aweek to keep him active and took the rest in ssi. But for me working is so much trouble I don't bother.

You can call the Soc Sec office or just wait. They send you a statement about once a year.

Call or go to your local SS Office. They can tell you what you need to know. Everyone else is just guessing
