A very nice relaxing quiet place to stay about 20 minute drive from downtown is the Coconut Bay Beach Resort in CDO. There is no website, but they have very nice bungalows, or huts and it's in an enclosed place off the main highway, and only cost 600P in 2003. Really nice rooms.and nice staff..good air-con and colour TV and room service...food is OK, but has a nice large pool and water slide.....much nicer for when you first arrive than in any downtown hotel....on the beach but beach not great...just the whole atmosphere is relaxing and there is no hassle staying there.
Extremely safe...it is a totally contained compound and just adjacent to a religious retreat...not noisy as its about 250 yards from the main highway. I wish I was the owner...I would do more to promote it...

Hotel Koresco....10 minute away from the airport....nice clean rooms, practically brand new but the food is basically limited to meat products and kimchi....beware the obonoxious Korean manager who shouts at the staff....otherwise, it's great there.
