OMG i had the same problem a year agoand i had to do it TWICE!!! it is hard i have to admit and u have to be a little bold i swear i am so shy. My best friends at my school r the ones i asked to sit w/ at lunch. and then i just hung out w/ them and now we're friends. try to be friendly and maybe ask someone to show u around or where ur class/es are. You can ask some ppl for their phone numbers if they r in ur classes like 4 hw but the n ustill have it. You just have to be strong and confident. It's hard but you'll make it through. Trust me. You will feel left out 4 a while and i know i sound negative but my best best friend i made at my school i only known for less than a year and we r really close. i jope things work out 4 u. GOOD LUCK! and dont be afraid!

Just be yourself and just like start talking to people in your classes and just hang out with them. Most people ask new students like where their from and stuff so just start with that and just come up with a conversation and just ask if you can hang with them. Trust me I know because i'm really shy also.

just be urself....at my school when a new kid comes...every1 wants 2 b there friend...i wouldnt no cuz ive been in the same school all my life...but just b urself

smile at someone who looks friendly and say "hi my name's (INSERT NAME), what's yours?" and then come up with a conversation. like whens their lunch...what grade they're in.
