and i still have a few days left of my medicine. If I try an OTC treatment such as monistat will it do any good as long as I'm taking the antibiotics? I'm 28 weeks pregnant and I dunno if it makes a diffrence if it's not treated right away. It's pretty mild discomfort-I can live with it. Just wondering if it would be pointless to treat until I'm done with my medicine since it's the antibiotics that caused it.

Yes, antibiotics often cause such infections. In fact, in some countries, acidophilus (which replenishes our bacterial flora and reduces overgrow of yeast) is also prescribed with the medication.
Can you eat plain yogurt? Avoid ANY yogurts with corn syrup and/or sugar and just eat as much plain yogurt as you can.

The antibiotics didn't cause it so much as you not taking the right precautions.

If you must take antibiotics, also eat yogurt with active cultures every day (at least 8 oz.) and also drink 100% pure cranberry juice every morning (about 4 oz.). I always put the cranberry juice in my orange juice, otherwise it is too sour for me.

I don't know why doctors and pharmacists don't add in these instructions when they prescribe antibiotics to women. Those yeast infections aren't fun or funny, and they can spready beyond the original areas and affect your whole body, so it is important to address them right away.

Check with your Dr. to see if Diflucan will hurt the baby, if not get him to write a script for one. Diflucan cost about $16.00 for one pill but is well worth it & one is all you need. For future referances, whenever you have to take antibiotics again, eat yogurt once or twice a day. Yogurt has something in it to keep antibiotics from causing a yeast infection.

I wasn't trying to copy what nora22000 said, BUT she's right on the money with great advice.

The same thing happens to me when I take antibiotics... Every fringing time- 2 days into a prescription bang- I buy the monistat along with it..

I ws told by my obgyn and my family doc to take a supplement called acidophilus...its a natural vitamin supplement found at most drug stores check with youy obgyn first but it should be safe.
I was told to take it the same time I start an antibiotic.
Cause what happens is the antibiotic changes your normal vaginal chemistry balance and the acidophilus..is what it is.so when you take your antibiotic it takes away this natural chemical balance=yeast infection

I am so glad i stopped having to buy monistat every time... When I was pregnant I asked my doc and she said its safe... but your doc might have a different opinion

regarding the pregnancy, i'd check with the doc before doing any type of treatment. i usually just have to ride it through, since by the time i realize it's a yeast infection it's almost over anyway. if it lasts any longer than a week, then i'd go right to a doc for something that would be safe for you and your baby to treat the symptoms of the infection. hope this helped!!

Yes antibiotics are known to cause yeast infections, being pregnant you should see your Dr. before you proceed to treat this yourself.

Check w/ your O.B.gyn about taking the vitamin 'acidophilus'. I am a mom of 5 and I remember taking that stuff once , when prego, after my anti biotic for step did the same. Now I swear by it and take it 2x a week. Check it out.

Good luck!!

that def. happens! i had that after antibiotics before my tooth was pulled. the OTC won't work as long as you are on the antibiotics i don't think, but it might help w/ irritation or itching, so try it.
