Dog Day's Afternoon. Everytime I watch this movie I am amazed by his acting. He is so intense in his portrayal. The role called for a variety of emotions from Pacino and he hit them all.

My favourite movie in this list would be the Godfather, and my favourite Pacino performance would be in Dog Day Afternoon, followed by the Michael Corleone character in the Godfather. Pacino seemed to be at the peak of his acting powers in the mid-seventies. With the exception of Sea of Love in the early 90s, he seems to want to ham it up in all the characters he's portrayed since. It's as though he feels the need to overact the role in order to outperform his co-actors. For example, there appears to be a consistent pattern in his yelling, jumping, making funny faces, in a lot of the recent roles, for dramatic effect, when all he could have done was flesh out the nuances of his character . It's as though he's forgotten to get into the soul and essence of the character he's playing. He may have gotten complacent over the years. Don't believe me? Go see the Insider again. Check out Russell Crowe's subtle performance and compare that to Pacino's. Tell me who you think deserves an acting award, and who deserves to be relegated to TV movies based on that film

Godfather my favorite. But best performance was The Devil`s Advocate. Great performance in that one and he would be the only one to pull that off!!

My favorite Al Pacino performance isn't even on the list, causes it's in Glengarry Glenross, for you all who haven't seen it, go out to your local rental store and get in right away. It's a all-star cast and i feel his best performance to date.

Scent Of a Woman. Actually, when I think about it, Al almost acts the same in each movie, sort of. Anyway, great actor. I've seen Scarface a million times, not really one of my best.

All excellent answers. I'd say Godfather with second place going to either Sea of Love or Dog Day Afternoon. I would have picked Insomnia, bu I don't see that on the list

I love the Devil's Advocate. He is so sinister and sarcastic, but caring at the same time. Very powerful role and he pulled it off flawlessly.
