Overheated and would'nt start until cooled down. cleaned carb. w/ spray, changed oil, filters, new belt. still very sluggish???? Could there be another fuel filter? the one I changed was between 2 hoses visable from carb. to gas tank.

See if mice have built nests in and around the cooling fins on the head. Had that happen once. Water in gas another problem causing slugishness but not overheating. Then the real bad news is that on Briggs twin I/C engines , which I am assuming that is what you have, the valve seats have a tendency to wear and dis-lodge and that will cause loss of power. Take compression tests on both cylinders.

Valve seat problems with I/C's? How'd ya tell it was a twin cylinder and a I/C? briggs rarely has problems with the seats popping out

But it wouldn't hurt to check.
Usually theres a mesh screen in the tank, then the fuel filter.......

You may have to get the motor rebuilt or buy another. High Wet Grass is the downfall of many a mower.

you may have over worked that little engine. try draining the old gas and putting new gas in it.
