I am a high school senior, and I'll go to college next year. I may wnat to have a notebook for all sorts of papers, emails, and also... I don't know, just regular uses!

What notebook shall I choose? Dell have good prices and quality, but Toshiba is also good, said by some of my classmates. I have no idea what programs they have whey you buy it.

Any ideas about that? Thanks :)

When you visit your college you are going to go to, check around and see what the college students prefer and go with that one. Ask your college adviser what features he thinks you should have in order to make the best use of the notebook at that college. Also identify what programs the college offers the students at discounts and avoid buying those programs until you are enrolled and get the student discount. Wait as long as possible before you buy your notebook because they are always going down in price and loading up on more features.

Any major manufacturer laptop will be of good quality. I have 2 Toshibas, 1 Dell and 1 IBM (now Lenovo). All are really good machines. The IBM is smaller and easier to carry, but this is more specific to the model rather than the manufacturer.

Look for the features you want. Once you find models that have the features you want at the price range you are looking for, then look at the software bundles.

However- let me say that you should avoid off brand laptops like the plague. They are often quite cheap, and MAY be OK, but are unpredictable. If it breaks you are often out of luck. You will often find that the company has disappeared, or that the support is poor. Then you are left with a very expensive door stop.

Don't ask me how I know

Toshiba is an excellent notebook in my experiences. It's what I'm using right now actually. For the price that I paid for this one, it is untouchable. Excellent quality, and lots of cool things about the pre-loaded Toshiba software.

It's a Satellite A105-S4034. Has 100GB hard drive, 1gig ram, Centrino Single (not duo, but I don't need duo) Core processor. This thing STILL flies though, and I'm into games big time! 15.4 inch widescreen. Wireless card and other stuff. You can check it out at http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=4982717

Picked it up after taxes for just under $1000.00. Defenitely a "best buy" in my opinion. E-mail me if ya need to know anything else about it. galloway_777@yahoo

Oh yeah I was cruising around ebay today and found this same comp on there, brand new in the box for a buy it now of $750 I think. just search for toshiba then the model number if you want to check it out.

To safeguard against the abuses a laptop can go through I recommend a "Durabook". Found at shopnbc.com. The screen and hard drive are shock/drop protected, water resistant from spills, and the case is made of metal not plastic. It is inevitable that your laptop sometime will be bumped-dropped-jarred and this system leaves you knowing that your machine is protected.

Take a look at Gateway. Nice warranty and price.

ubuntu or kubuntu., doesnt rely lots with reference to the pc. in case you get gnome you could quite receive kde and use that, and vice versa. why no longer get the two and notice which one you like superb? (individually i like kde). and ya I had the sluggish concern with opensuse. somewhat its boot circumstances.
