First off, you have to love Confederate history. Secondly, know where the bad neighborhoods are and stay way away. With that out of the way, it's a nice town -- big but not too big, people are generally nice, it's Southern without being Deep South, good culture and nightlife. Climate is temperate; probably 10-15 inches of snow and it rarely gets below 10 degrees at night except in the coldest of snaps. Day tripping to D.C., the beach or the mountains is easy. I like it just fine.
