You're asking for the *origin*, not for
the current reason(s)!
I have no direct evidence, but I suspect
it's related to why Catholic women used
to cover their head (usually with a hat/scarf)
when going to Mass. In both cases,
perhaps it was an effort by religious leaders
to minimize the importance of woman
in people's lives and to show the leader's
power (by getting the women to follow
their dictates, similar to EST people getting followers to cut off their beards).
At the time, it may have been
allegedly justified by "modesty" or
some such. But, as with pork eating
restrictions, the current explanation is
extremely unlikely to be the *original*
reason.
(pork: the original prohibition was based
on pork having parasites that could
infect humans)

Women's hair was their "shining glory, and as almost all religions are male dominated, they were required to cover their hair. May have had some to do with Eve's 'fault' for getting Adam to bite the fruit,lol, like he wasn't just drooling for a piece of it.
Anyway, I believe women do still cover their heads in parts of Europe, and the more remote areas of Spain, Portugal and, of course, South America. In our country it's the Amish and the Mennonites.
My Mennonite friends wear 'missy caps' and only take them off in front of family and special people. Many have hair past their bums, and it is indeed beautiful.

I can't tell if you're answering your own question, or asking one or what? But really it's to cover themselves as to not expose themselves to males and cover their beauty so males do not do anything harmful to them. To learn more, you'd have to learn more in-depth about Islam.

It is for modesty. Their cultures & religions out there are very conservative & all women are supposed to be very modest & also sub-serviant to men. Very different than Western culture!
