Isn't it just, we were there last October and couldn't believe the prices of a pint of best and a coke, nearly needed a bank loan for the drinks themselves, a coffee was extortionately priced and sod the food it was gold plated I think at the prices they change and to top it off some thieving rapscallion nicked my husbands wallet too, it will be a long while before we go back to Dublin.

I reckon it down to the Land speculators, as they have made a mint in Dublin.
The price of land is so expensive in Dublin and shop owners, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets ect. need to recoup that cost so its passed on to the consumer.
On the other hand, according to the government everyone is Ireland is wealthy so we can afford such costs.

The cost of living is high but the wages reflect this. Saying that some things (like housing) is mad expensive even for the very well paid. It's a great city though!

I think it is because , since the Celtic Tiger arrived people are thought to have become very wealthy and anyone with anything to sell is determined to get as much money as they possibly can for it.....In reality the Celtic Tiger missed an awful lot of people and things are as they always were for them, actually worse for some. The people who became wealthy were, and are, mostly in the building trade. Everyone else , in my opinion, are trying to follow their lead and it doesn't seem to matter to them how they make their money....Seems they just think of a number, double it, then charge it and expect you to say thank you very much for fleecing me........They will change their tune when the tourists stop being willing to be made ejets of.

Because it's a 'tourist trap' and the Euro hasn't helped. The Irish have such a wonderful sense of humour they just laugh.

It's called "higher cost of living". They earn more money but have to pay more expenses. If you compare USD to Euros you will see the difference.
