But you have to concider that wars have been waged in the name of religion, take crusades to take the holy land from the muslims.
Given current events were it used to be the US and others against Middle eastern countries, now it has turned into christianity/catholicism VS muslims.
If the pope was killed and the act was claimed by a muslim, it be the spark for the US to step in in the name of god. Then consequentilly other countries would start taking sides, like Venezuela, N. Korea and so on.
If the US could invade based on fictitious weapons, why not in the name of god?
You currency says in god we trust.

The Catholic Church would, for a few days, get more press that other religious groups. For that reason alone, they might do it themselves. The church's feelings get hurt when the guy in the big stupid hat is not getting enough attention. And the have plenty of hats - and plenty of old men.

Just as when his predessor, Pope John Paul II, was shot by a muslim gunman, but not killed, the occasion would not have any political ramifications.
That is the difference between other religions and Christianity.
The Vatican Council would convene and elect a new Pope.

If the pope Benedict XVI was assasinated he might become popular. He is not very popular neither well accepted, at least not as much as Pope John Paul II was.

No, the Catholics have not declared war on anyone in a long time.
They would issue a letter condemning the act and appoint a new POPE.

I agree. If we allow the radicals to get away with that, we are a lost country. The radicals can say whatever they want about Jesus, the Jews, anything, but do we burn buildings, trash businesses, threaten innocent people?? No, but they do. Our government better grow a set of b@ll$ and eliminate the radicals.

A world war? How do you figure that? The beauty of the Catholic church is that it is very resilient. A new pope would be elected, and that would be that.
