Did they really write it when they were 16?!?! and ... does anyone know anything else about the song. I love it!

Don Henley began writing parts of this in the late '60s, but it wasn't arranged into a song until his songwriting teammate Glenn Frey came along. It was the first of many songs Henley and Frey wrote together.

My understanding is they made the Desperado album after they heard Elton John's Tumbleweed Connection album - both albums are basically fantasies about life in the old West.

its a great song ...quite sad ..but with alot of advice ..things you would hear friends telling you when a relationship has gone bad and youve given up on love ....

I don't know any history about the song, but I love it too! I also love "I Cant Tell You Why" and "Witchy Woman"..
