You can charge it with the usb cable via your computer also if it comes with one.

Uh - they don't recharge by sunlight or osmosis. Yes, they need the charger (unless you are just using it for a paperweight)

If it has a battery in it, it needs to be charged. Depending on the type of battery you may have to charge and discharge it to get rid of the memory effect in it.
