When Connor is twenty-two years older than he was when he was one-half his present age, he will be forty-three less than three times as old as he is now. How old is Connor?

I can't think of how to setup the equation to solve how old Connor is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. : ) thanks in advance.

Take each sentence and use it to write an equation. It might not be obvious, but I think that his current age is going to be x.

1/2 x + 22 = 3x - 43

22 more than half he is now is 43 less than 3 times what he is now. Does that mean the same as your question? I think it does.

I get 26. Try it and see.

Let x be Connor's present age. His age at "twenty-two years older than he was when he was one-half his present age" is x/2 + 22. "forty-three less than three times as old as he is now" is 3x - 43. The statement asserts that these quantities are equal, thus:
x/2+22=3x-43
Now solve. You should get x=26.

Let Connor's present age be x
1/2*x + 22 = 3*x-43
twenty-two years older than he was when he was one-half his present age = forty-three less than three times as old as he is now

the equation goes like this... 1/2x + 22 = 3x - 43 when x equals his current age. if you solve for x Connor is 26

22+(1/2)x
43-3x

x=age

22+.5x=43-3x
-22 -22
.5x= 21-3x
+3x +3x
3.5x=21
/3.5 /3.5
x=6
