What is a Hymie? Where did this term originate?

I think a "hymie" is supposed to be a derogatory term for a Jewish person.

my understanding is that a hymie is that stuff your kid leaves in your glass after taking a sip of your drink.

It is an ethnic slur--so it must have originated with the profoundly ignorant.
