I've never used a tampon before, this would be my first time. (if I could get it up there!!!) My mom tells me I'm making a big deal out of it and its not hard, but it is!

It will go in a little bit and stop, I push but nothing happens. Then I have to pull it out because I can't sit there holding the applicator for forever.... Then now I'm hurting down there. Please help me!

Please stop worrying, I remember the first time I used them and I had the same problem. I left it for a while and went back to pads until I felt more confident using them.

Its normal for it to hurt a little at first until the area gets use to tampons, especially if you have never had sex. The other thing you are doing wrong is not pushing it up high enough and I remember how hard that was to do, it kinda glossed me out.

So don't worry, go back to pads for now till that area stops hurting then try it next time.

Additional Details.

I just saw your additional details.Put some Vaseline on the end of the tampom and you have to push it up higher. Hope all goes well for you tomorrow

Look for the instructions in the box. Don't sit completely on the toilet when you insert it, sort of squat over it, and kind of leaning forward, aim the tampon towards the small of your back as you insert it, that's the direction the body is shaped. Smaller (the slim variety) tampons and plastic applicators will also help. Also relax and don't panic when the time comes to take it out or you won't be able to do that either. Pull it out in the same position (the squat method) as you put it in. The biggest thing is to relax or the mussels down there clench and it will make it all more difficult and painful

Hi!
Don't force the issue (no pun intended!). If it dosen't go in, give it a rest, the more you try, the worse it will get and you can injure yourself.

Relax, wait for a while and try again, ask your mom if you are doing it right, read the instructions in the box. If you still have no luck, opt for the good old pad for a while.

But in no way force the tampon into yourself, an injury ''down there'' can be very painful and even lead to infection, you would not want that.

Good Luck!

First times usually suck. I couldn't use a tampon till after I had sex for the first time. You have to try and RELAX. Easier said than done. Try lying down with your knees up and take a deep breaths and exhale. Then try again. When you pushed it and nothing happened was because you tightened your vagina wall and it wouldn't let the tampon go further. Since you are hurting, give yourself a rest and try again later. I hope this helps.

try again reading this:
Most women's bodies have a natural opening large enough to insert a tampon. As hard as it may be to do, really the key is to try to relax as much as possible so that your muscles don't tighten. Finding an easy to use tampon with an applicator that is the correct size will help a lot too. You may find using a plastic applicator easier than a cardboard one. Take a few deep breaths and concentrate on relaxing your vaginal muscles. Following the directions on the package - put one foot on the toilet and put the tampon in while it is aimed toward the small of your back, sort of a 45-degree angle. Some people squat and insert the tampon while it is aimed almost all the way toward your back. Using lubricant, like KY Jelly on the tampon may help as well.

Remember to change your tampon often to avoid toxic shock syndrome (TSS). If you continue to have difficulty, a physician like an adolescent medicine specialist or a gynecologist may be able to guide you.
and
The piece of skin that your mother is referring to is called the "hymeneal ring". All women with some rare exceptions are born with an opening in their hymen. The opening is usually big enough to allow vaginal discharge and blood to pass through. The opening can become enlarged with physical and sexual activity. The natural opening should be large enough to allow for tampon insertion. (see Pain Inserting Fingers During Masturbation). If your hymeneal ring is still intact, this could be causing the tampon to feel "stuck".
Another reason for the tampon to get stuck is nervousness. Nervousness and stress cause the muscles around the vaginal area to tighten. The remedy is to relax. Try inserting a tampon at a time when you are not rushed. Use a regular size (some brands have a junior size) with an applicator - most people find them easier to handle. Hope these articales help.
Also if swimming your period should stop, mine does! Just hope so. Or tell the instructor you have your period and can't take the test today maybe next week. If you are not comfortable telling him or her then tell him you have a girl issue to solve or have a friend tell her/him.
Good Luck!

It could be because you are a virgin and your hymen is stopping it what size are you trying to use start out with slim fits for teens and if you are trying a super size stop. It being your first time for that start out small please for all our sakes. First relax you can try either sitting or standing, donot force it. You might be hitting the walls of your vaginal passage pay attention to the directions and angle it correctly. Also the way that my sisters body is made she has never been ever to use them. Keep talking to your mom and if the problem persist talk to her about a a check up with a OB-GYN female parts doctor

yes it might hurt if you new to it. and u might not like it at all. But do not lose hope. Also ask your mother to calm down.

Do not use it if your not comfortable. There are plenty of other options. Try to get the slimmest tampon and see if it works.

Do not get frustrated even that doesnt work. Use what you feel is comfortable to u and explain that to your mother.

Tell her you are not ready for a tampon and she ll understand.

Aside from what everyone else said about relaxing & trying a plastic applicator, it really helps to get to know your body first. Try looking in a mirror to get a better idea of where exactly you're putting it in.
Keep trying, you will get it eventually! Good luck!

Well, do you have a plastic applicater. Also, Try putting it in towards the curve of your back. Do you have the aplicater in up to the finger grip ridges. If not you need to. For more tips go to www.beinggirl.com. This was what helped me figure it out.
