Go to a garden center and find a crabgrass killer that is appropriate for the type of grass you have. If you're in a northern area, the crabgrass is starting to die on it's own now. But the seeds will germinate next year unless you put down a pre-emergent in the spring.

Crabgrass is an annual grass. The grass you want to keep is a perennial grass. Apply a crabgrass killer. It's simple, and all it does is prevent the crabgrass seeds from growing. The old crabgrass dies off naturally in the fall, and the new crabgrass can't get started in the spring! However, the crabgrass killer will also prevent the growth of other seeds, too, so you can't plant new grass seeds for several months after using the crabgrass killer.

There are chemicals that selectively target crabgrass, such as Acclaim Extra. But the best way is to prevent it in the first place by applying pre-emergent herbicide in the spring.

Maybe let the toughest grass win. Thats what I would do. I don't know why people like lawns so much anyway. I would grow a low plant cover that didn't need maintenance or mowing.

Your local hardware store would love to help you. They

have all kinds of products for that. If you go to a small

local store, they are more likely to be helpful than the big

chain hardware stores. Scott's has a lawnfood type granule

formula that you sprinkle over the lawn.

My neighbors ripped up their whole yard then reseeded it, it grew back pretty fast. But I had neighbors when I was little who just set their lawn on fire and started all over.
