My grade is English is slipping and we have these stupid vocab tests and hard worksheets each week. I study for the vocab tests, and check my answers on the worksheets, but it is not helping, and I have gotten to the point where I think my teacher may just not like me....how can I get my grade up?

Grading your worksheets and your vocabulary tests should not be affected by how your teacher likes you. These should be objective tests with only one answer.

Making flash cards will help you with your vocabulary test. Just writing them out will help commit them to your memory, and then you can carry them with you and study them whenever you have a free moment. I answered a question like this last month and most of the other people who answered the question also recommended using flash cards.

As for the worksheets, I don't know what is on them. Luckily you have a computer and Internet access. You can look up the answers on line to check them on your worksheet. Wikipedia is very good for this.

I use a word processing program (Microsoft Word) to help me with my spelling and grammar. I have dyslexia so I need the extra help. That way I don't look like a fool when I submit an answer. When I have no idea on how to spell something, and the word processing program isn't helping then I turn to the Thesaurus in the program. I plug in a similar word and I try to find the world that I am looking for. If that fails then I go to Google.com. I plug in the word, as best as I can spell it, and then add some related words. When I look it up then Google tries to give me the proper spelling of the word. It is a lot faster than going to a dictionary and I have a standard dictionary, a spelling dictionary, and a Thesaurus.

Also simply rereading the test can help catch mistakes. I often make some mistakes that the computer doesn’t pick up, but I do when I reread the answer I wrote.

English is a very difficult language, but it’s strength is how flexible it is and how much can be done with it. I have had to master the language because I speak it, write in it, and read it.

Teachers don't just dislike their students. Remember, she's getting paid so you do well, so feel free to ask her questions. When you study for the vocab tests, have you done flash cards? Those helped me, just so long as you're honest when you miss one. I also did rhymes with mine, or word association, which looks like this: Say the word is Matte, which means a dull surface. Well, my rugs arn't very shiney, and another word for rug is Mat, which isn't the same word, but it's close enough to get you there. Or you could think about a dumb matt in your class : p

Befriend someone in the class so that you can help each other. Once you feel that you're not alone, you will feel more confident in your ability and be able to perform better in the class. Also ask your teacher for help after class is over so you won't feel crazy about it.
