I totally agree with Diane A. I didn't like the oil with my daughter cause it just looks gross like she was dirty or something. I started using just a tiny bit of head and shoulders for sensitive skin and it worked within 2-3 days. My daughter is now 14 months old and I still use it once a week on her just to avoid the dry scalp again and it smells really good too. and you do not have to bathe them everyday at that age. how are they getting dirty? If they spit up on themselves then i would do a bath or a wet washcloth to clean them up after that, but otherwise.... you are doing a good job and don't let anyone make you think otherwise.

Dandruff can happen mostly either because the scalp is very dry or very oily.
You don't want to use something to strong on a baby, so I'd advise to use a regular Aloe Soap on the scalp, using your finger-tips, massage the scalp.
Be-careful not to let it get in the eyes/ears.
Get help, if needed.
Once it's completely washed, to give it a natural look from dryness... use just a little bit of baby oil on the scalp and massage it. This will condition. The best time to bathe the baby would be when it's nice and warm; so that she doesn't catch the cold.

Years ago they used to refer to what you are talking about as cradle cap.
Most newborns have this problem of dry scalp skin. What has always been used in my family and I used on my two sons was a bit of baby oil massaged into their scalp after you bathed them and washed them. If you see flaking there is a little fine tooth comb that you use to comb those flakes off.
It looks itchy (those flakes). But my boys cleared up by the 2nd month.
Just don't comb the little ones head until it is red looking just enough to remove a layer of the flaking a day.
Hope this helps.

In an infant it's called cradle cap and the way my grandmother, mother and then I treated it in our children was to put a generous amount of harmless baby oil on the baby's head each night, the oil adds moisture to the dry, delicate skin, wash it out the next morning and repeat for a week, the cradle cap should go away in that time. Many old fashioned ideas really do work. Good Luck.

This is called cradel cap. Do not pick at it. If you do it could bleed. Something that worked really well when my daughters (3 of them) got it was baby oil GEL. You can rub it on your babys head, it will not run down into the face or mouth. Then use a baby comb to come it out gently. After a few times it will be gone and safely. My kids cradel cap pretty much stayed away, with the exception of one who got it again around 6 months old. I just did it again.
Liquid baby oil is not safe if you have older children who may try to sip it. It causes suffocation. I recomend baby oil GEL and that is what my kids pedicatric doctor recomended.
Good luck

My doctor also told us to use Head and Shoulders for cradle cap. It works, and it smells great too! Just use a dime size drop or less, and keep it out of baby's eyes. You are right about not bathing everyday too. Every other day or three days is fine as long as your baby isn't playing in the sun or around other kids often. My doctor also warned us against Johnson & Johnson soaps and lotions. He says they are the most perfumed ones on the market and they can irritate baby's skin majorly! We use Playtex, and we love it!

first off, it's not dandruff, it's cradle cap. All of my kids had it. Second, what I've always done to get rid of it was to put baby oil on their heads, don't be skimpy, apply alot. Let it soak for about 30 min, to an hour. Then GENTLY take your nail and scrape off all the nasty old skin. If it doesn't come off easily apply a bit more oil and try again in 30 minutes. Don't scrape too hard just enough to get it off. It should come off fairly easy once enough oil has sunk into the skin. Good luck!

My son had cradle cap right on his soft spot. I kept it clean and tried lotions and everything I could think of.
When he was about 3 months the pediatrician said that to use Selsun Blue. She said to make sure you have 2 people to be sure that I didn't get it in his eyes, she said to use it every 3 days for about two weeks. His head cleared up and has been fine.
Your baby is still young, I would talk to your pediatrician first and ask for solutions...by the way, it never bother my son, just me, it looked yucky to me, but it didn't seem to bother him at all.

Welcome to the world of Cradle Cap. It is referred to as Cradle Crap by most moms. Who told you baby doesn't need a bath everyday?. That is BS. As long as you keep her skin lotioned up and baby oil on her little head and the rest of her too, she will be clean and soft, not dirty and flaky. A lot of babies get it if Mommy doesn't oil their sweet little head everyday after their bath. Her little hair needs to be oily. Get this book by Penelope Leach called Your Baby From Birth to Age Five. It is easy to read and she is world reknowned for this parenting book. You can find it in all bookstores. Congratulations and good luck.
