Always try for grants, because you do not have to pay them back. Luckily though, community college should be much more affordable for you compared to a 4-year. So even if you didn't get financial aid, you should be OK (but the question is being able to afford rent where you live.) Going to college is the best decision you will ever make, regardless of whether you might have gone to the military first. Best of luck!

Good Luck with college! Try for the grants first, but remember that your grants dwindle after your fourth year in school. So, if you plan to take more then 4 years (believe me, mostly everyone does) you may have to take out loans eventually. I got lucky and only ended up taking out 3,000 in loans.
Just fill out your FAFSA and see what your school offers you. Remember to check out scholarships online--you can get them for many things, and you don't have to pay back! Good luck with everything!

It is always, always, always better to get grants!! You don't have to pay them back. It is the equivalent of someone giving you money. Loans you eventually have to pay back. Go for the grants! If you live at home, have your parents fill out the FAFSA. It is the first step to getting federal grants.

grants...try to get as many as you can because you don't have to pay them back. Be sure to make the priority deadlines for financial aid at the school you're applying to in order to get the most you can and talk to an advisor. good luck!
